The Club has conducted a number of studies on environmental problems including conservation of areas of the Caroni Swamp and the Aripo Savannas, conservation of endangered species such as the leatherback turtle and endemic plant species and has made submissions to Government agencies and public bodies. Its professional membership has always been available in an advisory capacity to Government Ministries, especially the Ministry of Agriculture, Land and Marine Resources, the Institute of Marine Affairs and the University of the West Indies. All activities of the Club are on a purely voluntary basis and any research done is usually at the expense of the individuals involved.

MONTHLY MEETINGS

The Club meets at 5:30 PM on the second Thursday of the month (except December) in the Audio-Visual Room of St. Mary's College, Frederick Street, Port of Spain . Meetings, except the Annual General Meeting (January) and the Members' Evening (August), feature a lecture on a topic of broad interest.

Additional lectures may be scheduled. Time permitting, these will be announced in the press. The public is welcome.

FIELD TRIPS

Field trips are undertaken by the club for the enjoyment and edification of its members and guests. The Guidebook for many of these trips is The Trinidad and Tobago Field Naturalists' Club Trail Guide (1991). Non-members may join the field trips by invitation and financial contribution of $30.

All participants are expected to know and follow the "Country Code" as set out in Chapter 2 of the Trail Guide and to be familiar with safety recommendations set out in the same chapter.

Field trips are generally held on the last Sunday of the month. Trinidad trips depart from lower St. Vincent Street, Port of Spain (near the Central Bank Auditorium) at 06:15. If the route passes St. Augustine, there will be a stop at the south entrance to the University of the West Indies at 06:30.

Special Interest Groups may schedule their own field trips.
